Fire eatin' Hank is cool chile dude who loves New Mexico chile! His creator, Rusty Southard, is a Santa Fe, New Mexico artisan who enjoys creating one-of-a kind pieces of art all by hand. Rusty uses a special hand formulated stoneware. He first throws the mugs on a wheel and lets them dry for a couple of days. Then he creates his macho firing-eating chile figures. He starts with the mouth and porcelain teeth, then he adds the chin, lips, cheeks, porcelain eyes, eyebrows, and the mug handle and leaves them to slowly dry.
The figures are then bisque fired at 1800 degrees. After the first firing the glazes are applied in a twenty to twenty -five step process. They are then loaded into the wood heated kiln and fired for twenty-four hours at the temperature of 2450 degrees. After four days, they are cool enough to remove from the kiln.
These mugs are a must for any guy or girl who loves to get New Mexico chile on. The mugs are an amazing piece of art and are fully functional mugs. This mug makes a great gift for that hard to please individual who has everything except Fire-Eatin' Hank!
